    Ken Reid Conservation Area
    Roam 110 hectares of scenic conservation land at the Ken Reid Conservation Area during any season. Picnic spots, hiking trails, a beach area and mountain biking routes entice all ages. Bird watching is also a wonderful pastime in the area. During winter, try cross-country skiing the 8 km (5 mi) of groomed trails.

    Proctor Park Conservation Area
    Explore 37 hectares (91 acres) of nature at Proctor Park Conservation Area. There are 2.5 km of trails suitable for hiking or biking, as well as a picnic site. While at the park, visit the Proctor House Museum. This early 1800s historical building is open for touring during July and August.

    Rivendell Herb Farm & Tea Room

    This herb farm is located on 45-acres of quiet, forested land north of Belleville . Features include a tea room cafe, country emporium, themed herb gardens, classic furniture, workshops and special events.     Squirrel Creek Conservation Area
    This wetland habitat is located on the Otonabee River at Wallace Point bridge in the Township of Otonabee-South Monaghan. Ball fields, a fitness trail, walking trails and beaches with shallow waters are among the recreational features. Great wildlife viewing is also an option.

    Emily Provincial Park

    This park’s shoreline marshes and cedar forests are home to such wildlife as great blue herons and osprey. Visitors can walk the boardwalk along the marsh to bird and animal watch. Emily has two sandy beaches next to Pigeon River. There is camping accommodation as well.

    Presqu'ile Provincial Park

    Named after the French word for "almost an island", Presqu'ile Provincial Park is situated on Lake Ontario. The landscape is varied, with a mix of jutting out limestone, sand dunes, sandy and rocky beaches, marshes, forests and wet meadows. Bird watching is phenomenal in the spring and fall, as it is the flyway spot for migrating birds, a staging point for monarch butterflies flying to Mexico, and home to many waterfowl and shorebirds. Ontario's second-oldest operating lighthouse is situated in Presqu'ile, along with a Lighthouse Interpretive Centre (summer opening). An array of rental items is available to add to the enjoyment of a visit. These include bicycles, volleyball nets/balls, barbeques and horseshoes.

    Victoria Park
    Situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, Victoria Park is a 10-ha (25-acre) recreation area with a sandy beach, marina facilities, softball diamonds and a flower garden. The Victoria Park Bandshell hosts live entertainment during the Cobourg Waterfront Festival on Canada Day weekend.

    Serpent Mounds Park

    Overlooking Rice Lake, near the village of Keene and 30 kms from Peterborough, outdoor enthusiasts can combine the camping experience with some historic sightseeing. The Hiawatha First Nations own the site, including the nine burial mounds. The largest mound has a serpentine appearance and is unique in Canada. Day users are welcome.

    Petroglyphs Provincial Park

    Northeast of Peterborough lies the historically significant Petroglyphs Provincial Park. With over 900 images carved into the rock by aboriginals hundreds of years ago, it is the largest site of its kind in Canada. Come for the history, but stay for the lovely canoe and hiking routes.

    Riverview Park and Zoo

    With 27 exhibits and over 40 species, this smaller zoo is well worth a visit. Reptiles, primates and other exotic animals all reside on the premises. Other draws include the beautiful location of the zoo - situated on the Otonabee River - and the children's playground.

    Balsam Lake Provincial Park

    Set in the scenic Kawarthas, Balsam Lake is a link in the chain of lakes and rivers making up the Trent Severn Waterway. The park has a nice sandy beach with buoyed swimming areas, and there is a boat launch. The water is rich with muskie, walleye and bass.
